Showcasing the Northumberland & the LVEP Programme
Last summer, KG Photography had the privilege of working with the Local Visitor Economy Partnership LVEP Programme to create a series of images highlighting the beauty and character of the North East, particularly in stunning Northumberland. This initiative is part of a broader movement led by VisitEngland to transform how England’s visitor economy is structured and supported.
What is the LVEP Programme?
The LVEP Programme is a national framework developed by VisitEngland to reshape England’s tourism landscape. By bringing together public and private stakeholders under a unified vision, LVEPs aim to foster stronger local leadership, better planning, and more effective destination management across the country.
Recognised by VisitEngland, these partnerships are built on collaboration, locally, regionally, and nationally, working towards shared goals that support sustainable tourism, economic development, and improved visitor experiences.
Why It Matters
Through our involvement with the programme, we saw firsthand how impactful this initiative can be, not just for tourism businesses, but also for communities and visitors. LVEPs aren’t just about tourism promotion; they’re about creating long-term, meaningful change in how destinations grow, market themselves, and serve both residents and visitors.
The Five Pillars of the LVEP Programme
Here’s a quick overview of the key goals driving the initiative:
- Strategy
Building strong connections between LVEPs, VisitEngland, government departments, and national agencies to align efforts across the board. - Stability
Fostering resilience through diverse funding models, improved income generation, and inclusive governance structures. - Growth
Aligning local and national priorities to encourage sustainable, inclusive growth and performance-driven planning. - Place-Shaping
Contributing to the development of places in ways that benefit visitors, communities, businesses, and the environment—especially through partnerships with local authorities. - Training
Supporting skills development within LVEP teams and the wider sector, especially SMEs, through tailored training and business support.
National Impact, Local Roots
LVEPs are already making a difference in destinations like North Yorkshire and the Peak District & Derbyshire. In May 2025, three new partnerships joined the programme, Dorset, Wiltshire, and Hampshire, as well as Portsmouth & Southampton, expanding the network of high-performing regions.
In the North East and West Midlands, Destination Development Partnership (DDP) pilots are underway, testing the long-term impact of the LVEP model and helping to make the case for future investment.
Looking Ahead
As the tourism industry continues to recover and evolve, the LVEP Programme represents a forward-thinking approach to destination management. It’s about more than just attracting visitors, it’s about creating a sustainable, inclusive, and well-supported visitor economy that works for everyone involved.
We’re proud to have contributed to the programme and to have showcased the natural and cultural treasures of Northumberland as part of this national vision.
